since my fence is being installed today, i'm hoping to fix up the bad lawn in my backyard ... i left it go to crap due to the fence install and a shed install and the re-work of the deck the last 2 summers

any ideas that I can do on my own to make it look plush and full and green?

Lawnmaker, our recomendations would be to start with a soil test to make sure you have proper soil pH, and then go from there.  Healthy grass grows in healthy soil and to make sure the soil is healthy, a soil test is a great start.  You'll find out if you need to apply any fertilizer, Lime, Sulfur or organic matter.  Then you are half way to your lush, green lawn.  Once you know what your soil needs, then you'll need to add new seed to get your grass or turf started.  Good luck with your project!

Thank you and Happy Gardening! ~ Sarah
